Engagement Overview
New York City Department of Corrections
The New York City Department of Correction (NYCDOC) is one of the largest jail systems in the world. It is a high-risk environment where safety and security are critical concerns. NYCDOC processes more than 100,000 new inmates annually, including at Riker’s Island. With a daily inmate population of about 6,000, more than 10,000 uniformed officers, and nearly 1,400 civilian staff, a reliable and robust communication system is essential.
The Challenge
NYCDOC has been a long-time client of Forerunner Technologies ever since buying their first PBX system more than 20 years ago. Since then, they have grown and expanded the relationship by building a robust telecommunications infrastructure to handle all of NYCDOC’s voice communication needs.
Because of the safety and security concerns, downtime can be a significant threat.
The Solution
Forerunner Technologies has continued to build and manage the voice solutions the New York City Department of Correction needs to operate efficiently.
Not only does Forerunner Technology provide the telecommunications infrastructure for NYCDOC, but it also offers seven dedicated, top-level employees onsite to maintain their system and handle moves, adds, changes, and other service-related issues as required. The robust infrastructure plus onsite staff guarantees maximum uptime for NYCDOC.
The Result
NYCDOC now has 10 voice solutions at the 10 prison facilities located throughout the five boroughs in New York City. At their largest location, Rikers Island, Forerunner Technologies maintains a large 10,000 port redundant voice solution, which serves as the onsite central office for intra-NYCDOC telephone call traffic between their facilities on the island.
NYCDOC’s telecommunication infrastructure is built for redundant and reliable performance to optimize uptime.
